If you’re a DIYer, you already would have done a lot of jobs and know how it feels to see the end product. Not only this, you must have saved a ton while working on home improvement projects.

I remember the time when I was buying my first bungalow in Oakville, Canada. It was scary for me to see the listing prices for bungalows for sale in Oakville. But my friend suggested buying an old house for a lower price, redesign the house with simple DIY- home improvement tasks, and save an extra mile for your mortgage repayment. That’s was my first time working on such a thing.

I’m writing this post to share some budget-friendly home improvement ideas you could add to your list. I already have done these projects a billion times (not literally). If you already have done these projects, you could share your experience with the rest of us down in the comments.

Budget-friendly Home Improvement Ideas

These home improvement projects would cost not more than $500. So let’s look at these projects, one-by-one:

Paint Your Rooms

Tell me if I’m wrong, but does ‘paint job’ was the first thing that came into your mind when I said DIY? My thoughts are similar. Perhaps it’s because I have experienced this task more than any other home improvement task.

Anyways, when you see drab, washed-out walls, it means it’s time to pick up a paint can and brush and give a whole new look to your walls.

You don’t have to be an expert. Just choose your colors and tools and start painting. After a couple of coats, you would get to know your brush well and do it better than before.

The cost to paint a room ranges between $400 and $2,000, other than the paint and equipment. So, if you take on this job, you could save a minimum of $400 per room.

Install a Stair Runner

If you ask me, I prefer stairs without stair runners. But many do like them. So if you’re one of them, this part is for you.

The average cost of stair runners ranges between $21 and $45 per foot. It’s for a 26″ runner off a roll runner.

That’s just the easy part. The challenging part comes next – installing the runner. Rest assured, it’s a relatively easier task than painting a room with fewer tools involved. You could install the runner with nails, clips or use some solution.

The cost saved here is around $300.

New Finish for Your Kitchen Cabinets

If your kitchen cabinets are dying in colors or have dark looks, you could easily redo them with bright colors to give your kitchen a new look.

White is the new norm as they settle with every other color. It’s a paint job with less stress and equipment involved.

The estimated cost of doing this job is around $200.

Replace Expensive Water with a Water Filter

Since we got too sophisticated, we forgot there’s an alternative to expensive drinking water; the filtration unit.

With an under-sink water filtration system, you could easily replace expensive water with an economically-healthy water system. This task is not even tough to do and saves you money for a much more extended period.

The cost involved here is around $250.

Fresh Bead of Bathroom Caulk

So your caulk is vanishing. And before it dies off completely, you need to give it a fresh coat. The good thing about this job is that neither it’s expensive to buy nor challenging to apply.

I would not make a fuss out of it. Simply put’ you buy caulk from a hardware store, apply it on the surface, and wait for a while till it gets dried up.

The cost of this simple task is just around $10 to $50.

The list of home improvement ideas could go on and on. I have saved thousands by taking up these simple tasks. You could also do the same.
